disse il giullare al ladro,
"C'è troppa confusione,
non riesco a trovare sollievo.

"Non c'è motivo di allarmarsi",
disse il ladro gentilmente
"Ci sono molti qui tra di noi
che pensano che la vita sia solo un gioco.
Ma tu ed io sappiamo tutto ciò
e non è questo il nostro destino,
perciò, basta parlare in maniera falsa adesso,
l'ora è tarda."

Lungo le torri di guardia,
prìncipi osservavano

anche i servitori scalzi.
Fuori, in lontananza,
un puma ringhiò,
due cavalieri si stavano avvicinando,
il vento cominciò ad ululare.

said the joker to the thief,

"No reason to get excited,"
the thief, he kindly spoke,
"There are many here among us
who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and I, we've been through that,
and this is not our fate,
So let us not talk falsely now,
the hour is getting late."

All along the watchtower,
princes kept the view
While all the women came and went,
barefoot servants, too.
Outside in the distance
a wildcat did growl,
Two riders were approaching,
the wind began to howl.
